The winding streets and narrow alleys of Karolene hide many secrets, and Hitomi is one of them. Orphaned at a young age, Hitomi has learned to hide her magical aptitude and who her parents really were. Most of all, she must conceal her role in the Shadow League, an underground movement working to undermine the powerful and corrupt Archmage Wilhelm Blackflame.

When the League gets word that Blackflame intends to detain—and execute—a leading political family, Hitomi volunteers to help the family escape. But there are more secrets at play than Hitomi’s, and much worse fates than execution. When Hitomi finds herself captured along with her charges, it will take everything she can summon to escape with her life.

This book is just all full of magicalness!

Seriously guys! This book is just awesome. We have my 3 favorite types of paranormal creatures. Witches, Lycans and Vampires. I am going to admit that I love the fact that Intisar used the word lycan, rather than werewolf. It seems much more dignified, if I say so myself.

This book is short and sweet, just like me! It has so much action and it doesn't feel like any of the plot is rushed. Hitomi is a well developed character with a great detail of a background story. Without giving away spoilers, you get to see this amazing journey of self discovery.

I liked how this story starts as a simpleish rescue mission turned deadly all because of a mirror. When I read that part, I definitely thought of Beauty and the Beast. #ForeverADisneyKid. Along the way we meet 3 awesome secondary characters. Kenta, Ghost and Val. We aren't with any of these guys for long, but long enough for them to leave an impression and make you want to learn about them more.

This is a great read if you just need a quick fix. You can start and finish it in about a 90 minute session. Great strong start to a series and I will definitely be reading the next one

About the Author

Intisar Khanani grew up a nomad and world traveler. Born in Wisconsin, she has lived in five different states as well as in Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea. She first remembers seeing snow on a wintry street in Zurich, Switzerland, and vaguely recollects having breakfast with the orangutans at the Singapore Zoo when she was five.

Intisar currently resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her husband and two young daughters. Until recently, she wrote grants and developed projects to address community health and infant mortality with the Cincinnati Health Department—which was as close as she could get to saving the world. Now she focuses her time on her two passions: raising her family and writing fantasy.

Intisar’s latest projects include a companion trilogy to her debut novel Thorn, featuring a new heroine introduced in her free short story The Bone Knife … and of course, she’s hard at work on the remaining installments of The Sunbolt Chronicles.

Peaceful Genocide Blog Tour - Interview & Giveaway

Title: Peaceful Genocide
 Author: J.A. Reynolds
Release Date: November 25, 2013
Publisher: Self Published
Seventeen-year-old Mitzi and Deuce can recall how many drops of water were on a leaf from a rainstorm five years ago and conversations from last week, month, or year. They have the ability to remember every second of everyday—since birth.

This gift has blessed Mitzi with a history of being sexually assaulted by researchers and abused by her own parents. She trusts no one. Likes no one. Deuce, however, is a high school standout. His gift has made him a superstar on the football field and his memory promises him endless opportunities.

When they both end up at an Alzheimer’s research facility under false proviso, they quickly realize this place isn’t what it seems to be. They endure crazy military-style tests, are forcefully drugged, and complete real-life simulations that haunt them.

Mitzi and Deuce have no idea what the researchers want to do with them or their memories. But one thing is clear: the researchers will go to any lengths to get what they want.

1) Do you find it easier to write female or male characters, and why?

Both genders have their good sides and challenges for sure. For me, what is easy or hard depends on the characters personality. Some personalities are just easier to write than other. For instance, if sarcasm runs in your blood and you have a character who is sarcastic, you’ve got it made!

2) When writing this book, did you always know it was going to be a stand alone?

This book was planned in the beginning to be a stand alone. However, after finishing it and getting some feedback from some friends and a couple of agents, changes were made. Before I knew it, plot twists and a whole new ending had taken over. So instead of being one book, it will spiral into at least two.

3) What was the moment in your life where you knew you wanted to write?

I was never a reader as a young child, but as I aged, I learned to love books of all genres. Always a storyteller, I wondered if the things rolling around in my head would be good on paper. I’m still not sure if they are, but I sure do enjoy putting them down.

4) Are you currently working on a story, if so, what is it about?

Peaceful Genocide will have at least one sequel titled Lethal Injection, so I’ve been brainstorming that. I also write middle grade fiction, so I’ve been working on a second story about a girl and her horse to follow up Stolen Horse Dreams.

5) What is one book you always suggest for people to read?

That depends if your avid reader or writer. Or both! For a writer I would recommend the only writing book you’ll ever need: Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook by Donald Maass. For a reader, my suggestion would depend on what genre you prefer. If you like some science fiction/horror/weird stuff, like me, I would recommend the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz.
